One of my favorit artists...

... would definitely have to be Joseph Lorusso! I was lucky enough to take a workshop with Joe two years ago and he is not only a great artist but also the nicest and most modest guy you can imagine!
I love (or would that be l-u-r-v-e ?) his paintings, the color pallet and the slightly illustrative quality. But what really catches me every time is how his paintings are telling a story. You look at the old man drinking his coffee or the young couple in a restaurant and just wonder who they are, what their story is...

Not unlike with Karin's paintings....

btw: Great idea, Dawn!

    1. They are! He works on a toned background (burnt sienna), does a light drawing and then starts out by blocking in the darks. So when he mixes the skin colors they always seem very grayed, almost dull, but once he puts then on canvas they all come together. His paintings have this nostalgic feeling to them that I just love. Btw, he's only in his early fourties!

  2. Good call Regula! I've been a fan of Joseph Lorusso for awhile also! I first heard of him through American Artist magazine some time ago. Didn't you take a workshop from him?

  5. Same with me, I first saw his work in 2006, he was not yet teaching back then. So when I read about his workshop in Scottsdale in 2010 I just signed up... and it was absolutely worth it!
