GOALS

OK Jennifer asked the question - What are your goals as an artist?
I used to be good at setting goals for myself when I had a direct selling business. You know the saying - Make a plan and Work you plan? but painting seems different.

I want to paint 3 days a week (4 - 6 hours each day)
I want to finish my 100 mugs
I want to paint 100 plein air paintings this year
I want to post 5 times or more a week on my blog.

  1. This is a great topic because it is making me think about it. I keep saying I'll set some goals but I haven't really put what they are down on paper. I'm really inspired by your goals Dawn. Plein air painting is on my list for this year. I've joined a group that will start to meet in May. But putting a number on these paintings is a good idea.
I just recently retired from a pretty successful freelance web development business. I have enough savings to float for a while, so my first goal is to give myself 6 months to a year to paint and see what happens. Now I see I need to define this better by breaking it down like you have.

    Thanks Dawn!

  2. I think it is very important to write your goals down (Kelley told me that ;)) AND I tell people. If I think people expect something of me I am very motivated to complete it. I wrote my goals in my story about Hilton Head. I sent it to everyone for numerous reasons not the least of which was to hold myself accountable for my goals. Others people's goals inspire me! So let's hear it...who else is planning what?

  3. I love this challenge to establish goals and it's been exciting to contemplate what goals I can realistically see through to fruition. Thank you Dawn for starting this off! Here are a few of my plans - so far!

I'm going to join an online group to sell and display work through such as Daily Paintworks and/or possibly Etsy. I need to learn more about these.
I'm going to enter a minimum of six shows this year
I'm going to start mini portraits of everyone important in my life to display at home so we're reminded of our blessings. Also consider this as something to market.
I'm going to consider trying to find gallery representation.

    Like I said, so far...:)
